Homeopathy is a medical science known famously as the system of natural medicine for the treatment of diseases in mankind and animals. Homeopathy was founded and developed by a German physician , Dr.Christian Friedrich Samuel Hahnemannin 18th century. The word “Homeopathy” implies , ‘Homoeo = similar’ and ‘pathos = suffering.
Homeopathic philosophy
According to Homeopathy, a person gets sick only when the vitality of that person is weakened. And the whole body is governed by a dynamic force called called vital force or vital principle. Homeopathic philosophy further states that it is the derangement in the mind that shows the effect on body which lead to diseases of mind and body in human beings. Therefore, whenever the person’s mind is weakened due to various physical and mental impressions, the vitality is weakened and that person becomes sick and needs treatment.
When any person becomes sick, Homeopathic philosophy teaches us that the symptoms of the sickness or disease should match with any of the homeopathic medicines and the medicines are to be dispensed which stimulates the vital force to bring back the balance in the body to restore the health of that person. This is known as Law of Similars , one of the nature’s laws.
Homeopathic Guiding Principles
For any science to be authentic and acceptable, it has to be laid on certain principles. Homeopathy has its principles governed by nature’s laws which remain unchanged and are applicable across the globe. For this reason, Homeopathic science with its principles have remain unchanged over the last more than 200 years.
Verily, Dr.Hahnemann has laid down 4 major principles among other principles based on nature’s laws. The success of homeopathy through effective treatment of the sick is because of these principles followed in total by the homeopathic doctors or practitioners. The four major principles of Homeopathic philosophy are ;
Law of Similars :It is this law which has given a thought to Dr.Hahnemann to coin the word, Homeopathy. Therefore, it is one of the most important laws followed by the homeopaths. Law of Similars states Similia Similibus Curentur, which literally translates to “let likes be cured by likes”. Hahnemann observed and understood that any substance that can produce symptoms in a healthy person can cure similar symptoms in a sick person and such a substance becomes medicine for that sick person. In a Clinic, a homeopathic doctor always matches symptoms in sick person to the symptoms of the homeopathic remedy or medicine.
Law of Single Remedy : Every effort is made by the homeopathic doctor to match the symptoms in sick person to the medicinal symptoms to arrive at a single homeopathic remedy or medicine. It is always wise and proper to treat any sick person with absolute single remedy otherwise it would be difficult to ascertain the action of multiple medicines if given at the same time for a particular set of symptoms or disease.
Law of Minimum Dose : This is another principle derived from the nature’s law , Law of least action. According to this principle, the necessary force or stimulus required to bring about cure in a sick person should be minimum to start with as the vital force is always on the defensive and weak to react to strong stimulus if maximum doses are given multiple times. Your homeopathic doctor always strives to take care of your body by dispensing minimum doses for an effective reaction of vital force in achieving total recovery of health.
Homeopathic medicine preparation : The principle of homeopathic philosophy which deals with medicines procurement and preparation follows the theory of Drug Dynamization which is a unique method founded by Dr.Hahnemann. According to him, homeopathic medicines should be free from toxic and crude substance detrimental to the body. Inorder to remove the toxic and crude unwanted substances , homeopathic medicinal preparation is done by diluting the raw drug substances to the extent of retaining only the dynamic properties of the medicines. This is achieved by the process of potentisation which includes trituration and succession.
Apart from these major principles, there are other principles which make homeopathic science more scientific and effective to bring relief in the sufferings of the sick. Some of the other principles are;
Theory of Vital force, Theory of Chronic diseases, Palliative care, Compensatory mechanism etc among others.
