Vitiligo
Vitiligo appears as white colored patches(macules). Leucoderma is also wrongly interpreted as Vitiligo. Leucoderma also has white patches on skin. But leucoderma is more of a symptom from underlying disease mechanism where as, Vitiligo is a full-fledged progressive disease.
Vitiligo is commonly referred to as “white patches”. In Hindi, it is called “Safed daag” and in telugu “Bolli”.
Vitiligo is an autoimmune disease that results in the destruction of melanocytes (melanocytes are melanin- secreting cells which give color to the skin).
Vitiligo patches are seen on the trunk of the body, around the mouth, axillary regions, inside of elbows and back-side of knees, lips and external genitalia.
Causes of Vitiligo:
The reason for the appearance of white patches on the skin due to vitiligo is still a mystery. But the risk of getting vitiligo is high if a person has genetic/family history and if a person is already suffering from some autoimmune disease such as Hashimoto’s thyroiditis, Alopecia Areata etc. The appearance of vitiligo can also be due to some triggering factors such as stress, certain chemical irritants and any skin damage.
Symptoms:
Vitiligo appears as either pale or white colored patches on the skin.
Vitiligo patches are seen on the trunk of the body, around the mouth, axillary regions, inside of elbows and back-side of knees, lips and external genitalia.
Vitiligo can affect children and adults equally. It usually starts in early 20’s. Vitiligo is seen equally in male and female. The disease progresses by either with the increase in the size of the white patches and/or new white patches may form.
What if ignore? / Where the disease may lead the patient to?
Vitiligo as such does not lead to any new disease but it has a very profound effect on the day-to-day activities of the person with vitiligo. Patients with vitiligo may have autoimmune disorders, including Hashimoto’s thyroiditis, Grave’s disease, pernicious anemia, Addison/s disease, alopecia areata, uveitis, polyendocrine syndromes (types I and II), chronic mucocutaneous candidiasis. Up to 30% of patients with vitiligo have thyroid gland diseases associated with it.
Why one can go for Homeopathy Treatment?
Vitiligo patches are due to the destruction of cells meant for giving color to the skin. It is a very deep disease with auto-immunity involved. In such cases, creams or topical ointments will not give permanent treatment for vitiligo. Homeopathy medicines have the deep action feature which acts on the immune system of the vitiligo patients to prevent stoppage of melanocyte destruction and then stabilize the disturbed cell equilibrium so that skin pigmentation occurs normally and permanently.
Positive Homeopathy’s SPECIALITY in dealing with Vitiligo:
Many a patient with white patches who get demoralized by not finding a cure for white patches have turned to Positive Homeopathy in last decade or so. There have been remarkable results in almost all the vitiligo/leucoderma cases treated by us. Positive Homeopathy guides the patients of Vitiligo to follow regimen required for a period of time to ensure white patches disappear permanently.
